Job Title:
Slurry Seal Operator
Job Purpose:
Our client is seeking a Slurry Seal Operator responsible for operating slurry seal and road surfacing equipment on road construction, rehabilitation, and maintenance projects. The successful candidate will apply slurry seal and micro-surfacing treatments on highways, municipal roads, residential streets, and other road infrastructure projects, ensuring quality workmanship, adherence to safety standards, and efficient project delivery. The role involves working with specialised slurry and micro-surfacing equipment, spreader boxes, slurry trucks, and related paving machinery to support successful project execution.
Skills & Responsibilities:
- Operate slurry seal, micro-surfacing, and road maintenance equipment
- Prepare and apply slurry seal materials according to project specifications
- Operate slurry trucks, spreader boxes, chip spreaders, and related paving equipment
- Perform road preservation and rehabilitation work on:
- National highways
- Provincial roads
- Municipal roads
- Residential developments
- Commercial and industrial road networks
- Monitor slurry mix consistency, application rates, and surface quality
- Conduct pre-start inspections and routine maintenance on equipment
- Troubleshoot minor mechanical and operational issues
- Assist with road paving, resurfacing, patching, and maintenance activities
- Ensure compliance with project specifications and quality standards
- Implement traffic accommodation and road safety procedures
- Maintain accurate daily production and equipment reports
- Work closely with supervisors, engineers, surveyors, and paving crews
- Ensure all work is performed in accordance with safety, health, and environmental regulations.
- Strong understanding of slurry seal and micro-surfacing applications
- Knowledge of road construction materials and pavement preservation techniques
- Ability to interpret construction drawings and specifications
- Understanding of road quality standards and surfacing requirements
Qualifications and Experience:
- Grade 12 (Matric) or equivalent
- Road Construction or Civil Engineering certification advantageous
- Minimum 3–5 years’ experience operating slurry seal or micro-surfacing equipment
- Proven experience in:
- Road maintenance projects
- Highway rehabilitation projects
- Residential road developments
- Road paving and resurfacing projects
- Municipal infrastructure projects
- Experience operating:
- Slurry seal machines
- Slurry trucks
- Micro-surfacing equipment
- Chip spreaders
- Rollers
- Asphalt pavers
- Water carts
- Experience working on large civil construction projects is highly advantageous.
